Under the hood of the 2022 Explorer

A few engine options are available for the 2022 Explorer, and they all have tremendous capability. Most trims will come standard with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder which kicks out a massive 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. From here, a couple of options are available on the higher trim levels. The first engine we will talk about is on the ST trim, and it’s a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 which pumps out a miraculous 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The Limited trim has the option of a hybrid V6 engine which gets you 318 horsepower when you combine it with the electric engines. What brings this engine together is the fuel economy estimated at 27 mpg. Every engine in the lineup pairs with a smooth ten-speed automatic transmission, and while rear-wheel-drive comes standard, all-wheel-drive is available for those looking to get a little more traction for those bad weather days.

About the Explorer’s features

Eight impeccable trim levels are available for the Ford Explorer, and they each come with many features. We begin with the base trim, which comes standard with LED headlights, a power liftgate, tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker sound system. Moving up to the XLT, you get a few advancements, such as roof rails, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. The most performance features are available for the ST-Line, which has 20-inch wheels, a black exterior trim, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and simulated leather upholstery. Going off-road in your Explorer? Then you’ll want to check out the Timberline trim, which has premium off-road features such as all-terrain tires, front tow hooks, limited slip-differential, and underbody skid plates. Higher trim levels double down on the luxury and tech features with items that drivers and passengers are sure to love, including sport front seats, a digital instrument panel, paddle shifters, a digital gauge cluster, extended leather upholstery, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, and a spectacular 14-speaker B&O sound system.

What kind of safety can I get with the Explorer?

Now that we have covered the power of the engines and all the different features, let’s check out how the Explorer keeps you safe! Coming standard is a Forward Collision Mitigation system that will let you know when a collision is imminent and can even apply the brakes in certain situations. Then there is the standard Blind-Spot Monitoring system with Rear-Cross Path Detection, which will monitor the areas around your Explorer so you can make safer lane changes and see all of the vehicles coming up behind you. The last safety system we will talk about is the standard Trailer Reverse Control system which will adjust your vehicle’s brakes and will control your trailer movement when the trailer starts to sway. Higher trim levels are available with adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
